She then introduced Miss Sophie Tucker (played by Maggie Worsdale). Miss Tucker was a member of, and headlined an annual benefit for The Actor's Temple at a Broadway theatre every year.

After delighting the audience with some funny songs and jokes, we got to meet the bawdy, flamboyant, and way ahead of her time Mae West. Ms. Finnie captured not only the look, with her flamboyant gown and signature platinum blonde hair and makeup, but also embodied the voice, mannerisms and spirit of the great Miss West, who died in 1980 at the age of 87.

Ms. Tucker was excellent as the "straight man" to Ms. West, providing the setup for many of the great Mae West lines, and jokes from her illustrious career on stage, screen and in the nightclubs and speakeasies of New York. The audience was treated to a variety of songs, duets and stories which all ended way too soon.

The party ended with a "Shimmy" contest (which thankfully I did not enter) and a raffle for 10 outstanding prizes such as a Parol designer shawl scarf with the words, "When I’m good I’m very, very, good – and when I’m bad, I’m better!" knitted into the 25x200cm scarf, and an A-MAE-ZING teddy bear dressed to the nines, as Mae herself always did.

Of course there was time allotted after the finale and the well-earned encore for people to pose for a keepsake photo with two of the original divas of the stage.

Sadly, this was a one-night-only celebration, but the ladies do perform together quite often.

For more information on future events check out http://www.thegaudygirls.com and http://www.maewest.blogspot.com

For complete info about the reviewer, please go to http://www.thekingofbroadway.com and you can also follow him on twitter/tkob

The Gaudy Girls are a HIT!

"The Gaudy Girls were a hit with the audience. Maggie and Anne Marie have mastered the larger-than-life personalities and talents of Sophie Tucker and Mae West. From the start of the show, they transported the audience back to an era where stage stars had real personalities and talent and were not just the products of studio wizards. The show was full of fun, laughs and real charm. The music was outstanding. Anne Marie as Mae West was bawdy and just plain seduced the crowd. Maggie as Sophie Tucker readily got the audience in the palm of her hand with her stage-stealing voice, well-timed jokes and love of the song. Maggie`s rendition of "Life Begins at Forty" was both fun and moving. The banter between Sophie and Mae was fast and fun, and the audience actually winds up learning a lot about how these legendary performers started and made it big in their careers. All in all, the audience left loving the legendary stars Sophie Tucker and Mae West." Jane Kozinski Chairman of The Women's Initiative/ United Way of Greater Mercer County in New Jersey

The Gaudy Girls Pack Showroom at Monticello Gaming and Raceway

Few performers have the necessary talent to completely wow a crowd, but the Gaudy Girls easily rocked Monticello Gaming & Raceway on Thursday, Dec. 7 with a spectacular cabaret performance at HYPE. The sold-out show featured a lunch buffet and musical review that encompassed Broadway classics, jazz and swing ballads from the Big Band era. Anne Marie Finnie (Mae West) and Maggie Worsdale (Sophie Tucker) have been dazzling audiences with glitz, glamour, attitude and musical prowess for more than 20 years. Both proven and sought-after entertainers, the pair made easy work of the 204 spectators who packed into HYPE for the matinee show. “Many people said the performance was better than some Broadway shows,” stated Lori Rothman, special events coordinator for Monticello Gaming & Raceway. “It was truly an amazing display of musical genius full of energy.” The Gaudy Girls down-to-earth talent and ability to invigorate a showroom is nothing new. They have performed more than 150 shows, and both entertainers are in high demand throughout the Tri-State area. With grace and eloquence, Finnie and Worsdale lived up to high expectations from the Hudson Valley’s premier entertainment venue. “This was our first matinee performance in HYPE and it was a great success,” said Rothman. “It just goes to show people don’t have to travel far for quality entertainment. It’s right here in your backyard in Sullivan County.”
